About Speak Up
Speak Up is an Egyptian feminist initiative founded in July 2020 to challenge gender-based violence in all its forms. What began with a single Facebook post inviting survivors to share their stories has grown into a movement advancing survivor support, advocacy, digital safety, education, research, and collective action to address both gender-based and technology-facilitated violence.
Today, Speak Up is a trusted support network reaching thousands of people across Egypt, the region, and beyond. Through our Helpline, awareness campaigns, research, capacity building, and partnerships with civil society, technology platforms, and institutions, we respond to online and offline violence, including harassment, blackmail, and non-consensual intimate image abuse. We also connect people with legal, psychological, and other essential services while advocating for stronger systems of safety, accountability, and justice.
We believe that addressing violence requires more than responding to individual cases. It means challenging harmful social norms, unequal power structures, and systemic barriers that allow harm to persist. We amplify survivors’ voices, promote digital rights and safety, strengthen accountability, and work to ensure that safety, support, and justice are accessible to everyone.
Our Mission
At Speak Up, our mission goes beyond raising awareness. We exist to prevent and respond to gender-based and technology-facilitated violence while challenging the systems, inequalities, and harmful social norms that allow it to persist.
Our work is survivor-centered, feminist, and rooted in the belief that everyone deserves safety, dignity, autonomy, and access to justice on their own terms.
We do this by:
- Providing accessible emotional, legal, psychological, and digital safety support to people affected by violence.
- Respecting survivors’ choices and supporting them without judgment, recognizing that there is no single path to healing or justice.
- Building networks of solidarity so that no one has to navigate violence or its aftermath alone.
- Challenging harmful social norms through advocacy, public awareness, education, and community engagement.
- Advocating for stronger laws, institutional accountability, and better responses to all forms of gender-based and technology-facilitated violence.
- Developing practical tools, research, and resources that empower people to stay safe, understand their rights, and respond to threats both online and offline.
- Working with civil society, technology platforms, policymakers, and communities to create safer digital and physical spaces.
Our work is driven by a simple belief: people should never have to adapt their lives around violence. Instead, we must transform the systems that allow violence to exist.
Our Vision
We envision a world where gender-based and technology-facilitated violence no longer defines how people live their lives. A world where everyone can live safely, exercise their rights, and participate fully in society with dignity, freedom, and equal opportunity.
We strive for a future where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered to make their own choices; where safety, dignity, bodily autonomy, and justice are rights rather than privileges; and where digital and physical spaces are equally safe, inclusive, and accessible to all.

At Speak Up, we are committed to creating spaces where people are heard, believed, and supported with dignity, respect, and without judgment.
We believe survivors are the experts of their own experiences. Our role is not to make decisions on their behalf, but to provide information, support, and options so they can make informed choices that feel right for them. We recognize that there is no single path to healing, safety, or justice, and we never pressure anyone into taking a step they are not ready for.
Our work is guided by feminist values, intersectionality, survivor autonomy, and accountability. We challenge the social norms, unequal power structures, and systems that enable gender-based violence while working to build communities rooted in solidarity, dignity, and collective care.
Whether we are supporting an individual, advocating for policy change, partnering with technology platforms, conducting research, or raising awareness, our commitment remains the same: to stand alongside survivors—not speak for them—and work toward a future where everyone can live free from violence and discrimination.
